2nd Brigade Combat Team soldiers conduct a combined arms live-fire exercise. The exercise is in preparation for the 2 BCT/10 MTN Div. rotation at Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, La., scheduled for July 2009. The 2 BCT/10 MTN Div. will learn of its future deployment to Iraq on July 14, 2009.

Bradley Manning and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Soldiers prepare for upcoming deployment to Iraq in October 2009. 2nd BCT will partner with two Iraqi divisions, providing 'training, planning assistance and any additional resources that might be needed'

		Along with briefings, Soldiers spent long days packing equipment. Most sections within the brigade have a CONEX, a large metal container in which to store their equipment. Each CONEX must be inventoried, organized and secured for transportation by boat a few months before the brigade begins to deploy. Soldiers are authorized to pack a box of personal items to put in the CONEX before it ships. [...] In the weeks just before deployment, troops must complete the Soldier Readiness Checklist to be sure they are ready to go. This includes medical, dental, vision, finance and legal checks to make sure all information is accurate. [...] After SRC, Soldiers received two weeks of block leave to give Families time together before deployment. [...] After block leave, Soldiers focus on theater-specific individual readiness training to prepare for aspects of deployed life. They learn basics of the language and culture of Iraq, how to live in a desert environment, how to deal with the media and how to handle stress. They also learn about the law of war, rules of engagement and use of force. [...] To this end, he said 2nd BCT will partner with two Iraqi divisions, providing any training, planning assistance and any additional resources that might be needed. [...]

At a ceremony in Baghdad, mission is transferred from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. Colonel David M. Miller, commander of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), and Command Sergeant Major Joe Montour attend a ceremony the transfer. The ceremony marks the transition of partnership between the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division with Iraq Security Forces in east Baghdad and the Mada'in. The 2nd Brigade Combat Team has six subordinate battalions: 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment; 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment; 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment; 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment; 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion and 210th Brigade Support Battalion.
