Along with briefings, Soldiers spent long days packing equipment. Most sections within the brigade have a CONEX, a large metal container in which to store their equipment. Each CONEX must be inventoried, organized and secured for transportation by boat a few months before the brigade begins to deploy. Soldiers are authorized to pack a box of personal items to put in the CONEX before it ships.

In the weeks just before deployment, troops must complete the Soldier Readiness Checklist to be sure they are ready to go. This includes medical, dental, vision, finance and legal checks to make sure all information is accurate.

After block leave, Soldiers focus on theater-specific individual readiness training to prepare for aspects of deployed life.
